As Canada celebrates 150 years of nationhood, the City of Port Colborne commemorates its heritage as part of this great country. Port Colborne Heritage Days--My Canada Matters runs from June 20-July 1. Additional events are planned throughout the year.

June 29: Canada 150 Yoga
When: Thursday, June 29, 2017, 10 – 11 a.m. & 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.
Where: Sugarloaf Marina Pavilion
What: Canada 150–themed Pay-as-You-Play Yoga Classes
Stretch, strengthen, tone, and relax with Canada 150–themed yoga (#27 on the ParticipACTION 150 Play List). Join us in the pavilion wearing red and white to get your Canada-themed swag and a yoga class for just $1.50!
June 30: Countdown to Canada Day
When: Friday, June 30, 2017, 7 p.m. – 12 a.m. July 1
What: New Year’s Eve–style Countdown Bash featuring The Howling Horns
Count down to the 150th anniversary of Confederation with live music from The Howling Horns in a beautiful canal-side setting. Actual countdown will take place at 11:59 p.m. This is a 19+ event. Admission is free.
June 30--July 2: Niagara Antique Power Association Heritage Display
When: Friday, June 30, to Sunday, July 2, 2017, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Where: Learn Heritage Farm (Sherkston)
What: N.A.P.A. 45th Annual Heritage Display Featuring John Deere
Visit the Learn Heritage Farm, home of the N.A.P.A. Saw Mill, Bake Shop, and Ice Cream Shop, the Kramer Blacksmith Shop, and much more! You’ll see antique tractors, cars, and trucks, Meccano models, and specially featured John Deere tractors and equipment. The kids will have a great time in Kiddy Korner, and everyone will enjoy the daily demonstrations and stage entertainment. Admission is $6 for adults; children under 12 are free.
July 1: Canada Day in the Park
When: Saturday, July 1, 2017, 10 a.m – 9 p.m.
Where: H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park
What: Food, Entertainment, Vendors, Kids’ Activities, and More
The Port Colborne Optimist Club always hosts Canada Day in the Park, but this year, they’re going above and beyond to mark the closing of Port Colborne Heritage Days—My Canada Matters. Festivities will include both kids’ and main stages, kids’ activities, vendors, demonstrations, special Canada 150 performances, and a skydiving presentation! Official ceremonies and Canada birthday cake at 1 p.m. This is a free, family-oriented event.
Bonus Event #1: Canada 150 Volleyball Tournament at Nickel Beach
When: Saturday, July 15, 2017, 9 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Where: Nickel Beach
What: Volleyball Tournament
Keep the celebration going with our Canada 150 volleyball tournament at Nickel Beach, hosted by the Niagara Sport & Social Club. Recreational, Intermediate, and Competitive categories are available. Registration closes July 12 (fees apply). Sponsored by the Smokin' Buddha.
June 20: Opening Ceremonies
When: Tuesday, June 20, 2017, 2 - 4 p.m.
What: Opening Ceremonies & Dedication of Timber Frame Cabin
Enjoy entertainment from the City of Thorold Pipe Band and exhibits of 150-related projects (including a cedar canoe crafted by Port Colborne High School students, a Canada 150 quilt by the Port Colborne Quilt & Stitchery Guild, and Exposure 150 in the Museum gallery). Wander the Museum grounds beforehand and even bring a picnic lunch! Museum and Heritage Village open 12 to 5. Official ceremonies at 2 with light refreshments to follow. This is a free public event.
June 21: National Aboriginal Day
When: Wednesday, June 21, 2017
What: Entertainment & Artisans Showcasing Indigenous Heritage & Culture
Join us in the Presidents Room at Roselawn to celebrate the heritage of Canada’s first people. Long before Confederation, Indigenous people were shaping the land and culture of what we now call Canada (likely itself derived from an Indigenous word), and they remain an important part of our community and our country. Learn more from artisans and performers from our local First Nations. This is a free event.
June 22: Presentation of Canada 150 Placemats to Meals on Wheels
When: Thursday, June 22, 2017, 2 – 3 p.m.
Where: McKellar Hall at the Port Colborne Hospital
What: Presentation of Placemats from Port Colborne Quilt & Stitchery Guild
Members of the Port Colborne Quilt & Stitchery Guild will present several dozen Canada 150–themed placemats they made for Meals on Wheels participants. This free event is open to the public.
June 23: Centennial Pool Time Capsule Opening
When: Friday, June 23, 2017, 10 – 11:30 a.m.
What: Opening of Centennial Pool Time Capsule from 1967
Revisit 50 years of swimming in Port Colborne as we open the time capsule embedded in Centennial Pool in 1967. See the items and messages people left to be discovered half a century later. Pictures and other artifacts will also be on display courtesy of the Museum. Light refreshments will be served. This is a free public event.
June 24: St-Jean-Baptiste Day Beats & Bites
When: Saturday, June 24, 2017, 12 – 2 p.m.
What: Traditional French Food Tastings & Bilingual Family Concert
Celebrate our French culture and heritage with free tastings of traditional French treats and a bilingual concert from Jeanette Arsenault, singer/songwriter of This Is My Canada/Mon Cher Canada. Tastings from 12-1, concert from 1-2. This is a free, bilingual, all-ages event.
June 24: Art Crawl
When: Saturday, June 24, 2017, 12 – 11 p.m.
Where: Downtown Port Colborne
What: Artists, Artisans, Bands, Vendors, and More
Support local artists and artisans with a stroll through picturesque downtown Port Colborne. (Walking is #19 on the ParticipACTION 150 Play List.) Stop for live music or perhaps a bite to eat. You can even shop at many of the downtown businesses who have extended their hours for this event. From West to King and Clarence to Charlotte, downtown will be chock-a-block with entertainment for all ages. Admission is free.
June 25: Sandcastle Day at Nickel Beach
When: Sunday, June 25, 2017, 12 – 5 p.m.
Where: Nickel Beach
What: Professional Sand Sculpture Demo/Workshop & Family Fun Day
What better way to spend a day and celebrate Port Colborne than playing in the sand at beautiful Nickel Beach? Watch and learn as professional sand sculptor Sandi Castle creates a masterpiece, then work with your family and friends to build your own based on her advice! Building a sandcastle is #41 on the ParticipACTION 150 Play List. This is a free event (beach admission fees may apply).
June 26: Canada 150 Zumba
When: Monday, June 26, 2017, 6 – 7 p.m.
Where: Sugarloaf Marina Pavilion
What: Canada 150–themed Pay-as-You-Play Zumba Class
Get fit, have fun, and cross Zumba off your ParticipACTION150 Play List (#78, dancing)! The pavilion will be decorated, there will be Canada-themed swag, and you’ll pay just $1.50 for the class. Don’t forget to wear red and white!
June 26: Canada 150 Quilt Presentation to Council
When: Monday, June 26, 2017, 6 – 7 p.m.
Where: City Hall, Council Chambers (3rd Floor)
What: Presentation of Canada 150 Quilt by PC Quilt & Stichery Guild
The Port Colborne Quilt & Stitchery Guild hand-crafted a beautiful Canada 150–themed quilt, which they will gift to Council. The quilt will hang in Council Chambers as a reminder of Port Colborne Heritage Days—My Canada Matters and the vibrancy of our community. Many thanks to members of the guild for their time and effort in crafting this unique keepsake. Council meetings are free and open to the public.
June 27: OutSpokin: Slow Rides Heritage Bike Ride
When: Tuesday, June 27, 2017, 6 – 8:30 p.m.
Where: Gather at Market Square 5:30 – 6 p.m.
What: Leisurely Bike Ride on Heritage Route through Port Colborne
OutSpokin: Slow Rides offers leisurely cycle tours for all ages and abilities. Cycling is #2 on the ParticipACTION 150 Play List. The June 27th ride will feature a special heritage route and Canada 150 swag and prizes. If you don’t have a bike, Cycle-Logical will rent you one for just $10. Helmets are required for riders under 18. This is a free event, but registration is required.
June 27: Niagara Memorial Militaires Alumni Drum Corps Concert in the Park
When: Tuesday, June 27, 2017, 7 – 8 p.m.
What: Outdoor Concert by Local Marching Band
With a mix of classic marches, Broadway show tunes, pop songs, and movie themes, the Niagara Memorial Militaires Alumni Drum Corps is sure to entertain everyone. Bring your chair or blanket and join us for this free concert in one of Port Colborne’s most popular outdoor settings.
June 28: Afternoon Tea at Arabella's
When: Wednesday, June 28, 2017, 2 – 4 p.m.
Where: Arabella’s Tea Room (Museum Grounds)
What: Tea & Homemade Biscuits in a Heritage Building
Arabella’s delicious tea and homemade biscuits are a deal at the usual $5 per person, but for one afternoon only, they’ll be an absolute steal at just $1.50. Celebrate Port Colborne Heritage Days in one of our designated heritage buildings and enjoy tea and biscuits in an Edwardian setting, courtesy of the Museum Auxiliary.
